Kinship / Older Relative Support Program
The National Family Caregiver Support Program has allocated funding for grandparents or older relatives who are raising minor children.
Assistance to the family can be:
- Funds for health care including transportation
- Grandparent support group meetings
- Parenting classes
- Legal assistance
- Child care / After school programs / Social events
- Respite care
- Tutoring and mentoring programs for children
You are eligible if you are:
- A grandparent, great grandparent, step-grandparent, or a relative who is 60 years old caring for a child related by blood or marriage who is 18 years old or younger or,
- The primary caregiver of the child because the biological or adoptive parents are unable or unwilling to serve as the primary caregiver or,
- The primary caregiver with legal custody or guardianship or are raising the child informally, and,
- A resident of the counties of Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Isabella, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, or Tuscola
